General: Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Who can attend OYA retreats?

Answer: People who identify as Black women or women of colour.

Question: I am friends/family/partnered with a Black woman / woman of colour. May I also attend?

Answer: No. This retreat is for people who identify at these specific intersections.

Question: Is the venue accessible?

Answer: Not all venues are 100% accessible. Please do get in touch so that we can find a solution together.

Question: Do I have to be an advanced yoga practitioner in order to attend an OYA retreat?

Answer: You do not have to be an advanced yoga practitioner in order to attend. The instructor will provide different options in order to accommodate practitioners of all levels.

Question: Do I have to have done a course in mindfulness in order to get something out of this retreat?

Answer: Not at all. Mindfulness does not need level categories. Anyone can practice mindfulness at any time. It's an ongoing process.

Question: Is mindfulness meditation a religious practice?

Answer: Mindfulness meditation can be practiced by anyone, irrespective of religious or spiritual affiliation.

Question: Is it possible to book for a selected part of the retreat?

Answer: Guests must book for the entire retreat. It is not possible to only book single classes. We emphasise creating a space in which sisters can exchange and build trust. This atmosphere would not thrive as well, if guests were changing throughout the retreat.

Question: Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?

Answer: While we can offer a limited amount of extra yoga mats and props, we strongly suggest that you bring your own mat and props.

Question: What type of food will be offered?

Answer: The food is vegan and wheat-free. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know in advance. Tea will be available throughout the day. Alcohol will not be served and is also prohibited.

Question: Are there toiletries available?

Answer: Bedding and sheets are provided by the venues. Some venues do not provide towels, so please read your confirmation e-mail carefully or bring your own towels just to be on the safe side. Cosmetics will be available, but if you have any allergies, we recommend you bring your own products.

Question: Is there wifi available?

Answer: This depends on the venue. Please read your confirmation e-mail carefully. In general, however, we recommend that you consider going offline for the duration of the retreat, if at all possible.
