A few years ago in a consultation with a naturopath, I was told that I do not have to shoot for 100%. In this particular scenario, the naturopath was referring to changing certain aspects of my diet. She said that to remind me, while I may aspire to a complete change, there may be times that I will have to compromise. And that's okay.
As I continue to figure out what works for my body - and doesn't - I recall her words often. Not to make excuses for things that can be avoided, but to find compassion with myself when I run out of time or forget or [...].
If you are changing the way you eat, you are changing the way you live. If you are changing the way you practice, you are changing the way you live. And that's a big deal. It's important to honour those changes by offering yourself compassion, especially in the beginning stages, when things do not always go according to plan. At 70 or 80 per cent, you will feel the shift. And with patience and commitment, 100 per cent will come too.
