Weekend Retreat | A Midsummer Weekend's Dream

  • Emerson College European Center at Kasteel Well Kasteellaan 20 Well, Limburg, 5855AE the Netherlands (map)

Join the OYA team for a weekend away serving the Amsterdam Black Women community. The retreat will include Kriya Yoga, mindfulness, workshops, meals as well as leisure for exploring, resting and relaxing.

Theme

A Midsummer Weekend's Dream is an opportunity to celebrate the longest day (and shortest night) of the year that will have just taken place. We will honour the cycles of nature and help usher in the warmest season of the year. This retreat is for Black women.

On Summer Solstice the sun reaches its highest point. Reaching the middle of the year can evoke many emotions: anxiety or disappointment stemming from unmet goals, joy arising from a positive outlook ushered in through warmer weather and sunlight, or even fear as the year has unfolded differently than planned. We will use the opportunity to raise our collective and individual energy for healing and realigning.

In the presence of sisterhood, you will have the opportunity to move and to be still, to read, write and sing, to talk and to listen. This weekend is perfect for you if you want to re-connect with the natural cycles of the year and open yourself to the harvest season.

The exact retreat schedule is subject to change and will be released to registered guests closer to the date.

Talks and Treatments

There will be a number of activities on offer over the course of the weekend. We continually update the website with details.

NEW ::: Kriya Yoga and Mindfulness with Stacie. The yoga sessions will be accessible to both beginner and advanced practitioners alike. These sessions help ground the Self while elevating our consciousness.

NEW ::: Stand Your Ground workshop with Kim! We will be finding our centre through breath and movement, bringing awareness to our grounded sense of being and connection to our core. There will be simple exercises that nurture and support our foundation and build self-awareness. This journey will take us on an enquiry of how boundaries and consent feel in the body, exploring our authentic ‘yes’ and ‘no’, as well as the grey area in between. Staying in consent with our bodies is the foundation to a happy and healthy sexuality.

NEW ::: Radical Self-Care & Self-Love workshop with Kim! We’re often told we should be doing self-care and that it’s important for our mental health and well-being, but that’s not easy in a society that often glamourises hard work. This interactive workshop will offer an exploration of many related themes and concrete ways to put it all into practice.
